Head Gardener
Iver Environment Centre (formally Iver Nature Study Centre)
Role Description:-
Iver Environment Centre is looking to recruit a Volunteer Head Gardener(s) to help develop and maintain the 2.5-acre site. Working both within a team of mixed ability volunteers and alone the Volunteer Head Gardener will manage the grounds and work with the centre manager to create a truly inspirational environment. Whilst this is a voluntary position there is an annual budget available for maintenance.
Organisation:-
Iver Environment Centre is a unique wilderness located 1 mile from Uxbridge Town Centre. Spread over 2.5 acres the site includes an orchard, meadow, woodland, lake and even a Rainforest (in a polytunnel). The site is open to school groups to learn about the environment and explore nature and is used by a number of special needs groups for Horticultural Therapy.

Requirements:-
· Flexible times, across Monday to Friday
· Ideally we are looking for a person(s) willing to commit in the medium to long term at least a couple of days a week.
· Enhanced CRB check

Types of Activity:-
The Head Gardener will take a role in the creation, management and maintenance of the grounds. Duties will include general gardening such as weeding, watering and repairing fences, they will also work with our education team to develop the grounds into a unique learning resource to include:
· Raised beds
· Allotments and wildlife gardens
· Compost demonstration site
· Pond development and maintenance
· General maintenance and some light construction
Skills and Qualifications::-
The ideal volunteer will have a sound knowledge of gardening and will ideally have a track record in allotments and or conservation work. The most desirable skill is vision and creativity.
Induction:-
We offer taster sessions, Induction On-the-job training, assigned mentor and annual thank you event.
