Role:

Do you like walking in your local countryside? Would you like to discover new paths and help maintain and improve the extensive network of local footpaths and bridleways?

The Colne Valley Regional Park covers 43 square miles and provides the first real taste of countryside to the West of London. For those wishing to explore the park it is a mosaic of farmland, woodland and water with many hidden treasures.

To help promote the park to local residents and residents of West London and Slough we have a series of over 20 promoted routes of varying lengths. We are looking for a volunteers who can undertake some, or all of the following:

Survey the routes and amend and update the walk route descriptions as appropriate

Monitor the condition of the walks, undertake minor improvements and report major problems to the appropriate authority

Identify opportunities for further improvements to the appearance and accessibility of the routes

Respond to comments from the public on routes

Respond to requests from the public for walks leaflets or books

Distribute walks leaflets to local libraries, community buildings and visitor attractions

Promote the 'Short Walks in the Colne Valley Park' book for sale through local shops and retail outlets

Lead or assist with organising and running guided walks throughout the Colne Valley Park

Requirements:

CRB will be required for this post.

Skills Obtained:

Tasks are varied and will be discussed with the volunteer. The post could help develop skills in:

Countryside access

Practical management

Administration

Organising and running events

Trained in leading walks

Training & Support:

We offer taster sessions, induction on-the-job training assigned mentor and annual thank you event.
