About us

Groundwork Thames Valley is an independent charity that works to create social, economic and environmental improvements.

We work with local people in projects that strengthen communities and improve the environment.  Every year we deliver hundreds of practical improvement projects across the West London, Heathrow and Thames Valley area, focusing on those communities in greatest need.

How we can help

Groundwork Thames Valley has over 20 years experience of community engagement, landscape architecture, partnership building and project management. Our work helps to improve the natural and built environment; create stronger neighbourhoods; provide opportunities for learning new skills; realise young people's potential, and engage the local business community.

Our projects range from:

Our professional services include:

Our social enterprises:

Blue Sky Development & Regeneration

Blue Sky employs only ex-offenders and offers them a real job with work-based training in the grounds maintenance sector. It provides the social and employment skills necessary to help its employees to (re-)enter the workplace. Find out more at: http://www.blueskydevelopment.co.uk/

West London Floating Classroom (WLFC)

WLFC operates an electric wide-beam canal boat, the Elsdale II, along the Grand Union Canal in Hillingdon, Hounslow and Ealing.  The boat was especially designed and constructed to offer community groups and schools the opportunity to discover the local canal environment and heritage. The boat is also available for private hire. Find out more at: http://www.elsdale.co.uk/

Reading Motor Education Project

The Reading Motor Education Project works with young people in the Reading area from the age of 12, offering practical training in motor mechanics.  Our particular emphasis is on working with less advantaged young people and those at risk of not moving onto employment, education or training.

The project is part of the group of SKIDZ projects, all of which are registered charities. They each work in partnership with different agencies to offer young people the chance to participate in challenging activities that develop skills and build a sense of achievement and self-esteem.

Our vision

Everything we do contributes to our vision of a society made up of sustainable communities which are vibrant, healthy and safe, which respect the local and global environment and where individuals and enterprise prosper.
